Newsletter June 2024
Dear friends, the months seem to fly by and once more I find
myself passing on to you all the things that matter to us and hope the information is useful to some of you at least.
First, some good news. On Sunday June the 16th over 65
friends and members enjoyed our annual Hog Roast in aid of
the Estepona Soup kitchen. Our raffle made €600 and this
was increased by a donation of €100 by one of the guests.
We would like to thank all our sponsors and I have included
their names at the end of this newsletter.
For anyone who knows family and friends that live in the
Estepona area that are faced with the terrible disease that is
cancer, more support is now available. The association in
question is a national Spanish charity (Asociación Español
Contra el Cáncer en Estepona) that has recently opened an
office in town at Calle Terraza 170 (telephone 657 933 323). It is open from Monday to Friday 10AM to 1PM and for non-Spanish speakers, help is available in English on the 2nd and 3rd Thursday of the month. The aim of the organisation is
to support people at all times and all help is free. For more
information please call and ask for Caroline. Or check out the website www.contraelcancer.es .
As the tourist season is picking up now, the last quiz night
until September will be held on June 27th at ViceVersa.
Many thanks to all our regular Quiz teams who attend our
busy Quiz nights and make it a worthwhile event for all. Don’t forget to tell your friends about AREME and bring them along. The more money we can raise at our fundraising
events the more we can get involved in the promoting of our
organisation to make a difference for all in Estepona. We look forward to seeing you all back again in September.
Coffee mornings in Rick’s Bar will continue through July and
August as usual. For those of you who also attend at Neli G’s, you should be aware that there will be no meetings until September 16th.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Most of us live in what are called Communities, be they
blocks of flats or developments away from the town centre.
These as you know are mainly organised by a President and
an administrator (normally a company). AREME do not have
any reason to get involved with peoples communities as this
is where you live and it is down to you to know what is
happening in your community. However on this occasion we
feel obliged to pass on to you information on a new
organisation that has been created due to a very small
number of Presidents / Administrators abusing their power.
We have seen a translation from the Spanish newspaper EL
MUNDO, that states many homeowners are suffering inflated
costs from their presidents and administrators where the
money goes into their pockets rather than benefit the
community. The new organisation is called APERCOVE and
has been created specifically to fight this practice. If you suspect you are being affected by this in your community we
are passing on this link to you to help stamp out this injustice you may be suffering. https://www.elmundo.es/andalucia/2024/06/18/6671c951e
