AREME NEWSLETTER
NOVEMBER 2025
Dear friends, Christmas has now started in the shops at least, and despite our warm sunny days our minds are being formed to believe that the inevitable will be here sooner than we think! HO! HO! HO!
On the 15th September, the local press wrote articles covering a visit to Estepona from the British Ambassador, Sir Alex Ellis. AREME were tasked to organise a meeting with the expat communities clubs, associations and organisations, to represent the 4,500+ UK inhabitants of the town. On the day of the Ambassadors visit, 10 representatives from 5 organisations greeted Sir Alex who put us all at ease. He asked us questions about living in Spain and how it had changed our lives and how well our various groups were integrating with our host country. Sir Alex had previously visited the Mayor and had 3 diplomats accompany him from Madrid and Malaga. The visit lasted over an hour before the Ambassador and his party continued on its way to their next engagement in Gibraltar.
The latest information we can pass on to you about the Benavista (blue) Bridge is that further efforts to move it along are once more under way. A letter has recently been sent to the Mayor of Estepona, in the hope that a positive reaction will open further dialog to get work started in 2026 at the latest.
In November last year we staged the very successful British Day at the Palacio de Congresos with the help of the town hall. However, as is now common knowledge that this year we were unable to use the venue due to a double booking. Recently we have been talking to ACE Club and it is hoped that in the new year that we shall put on a small version at their premises using a similar idea as used last year.
We are still getting good support for our Quiz Nights at ViceVersa with a nice mix of regular teams and visitors. The new owners are also promoting us and our next Quiz, last of the year, is on the 10th of December, starting at 7pm. It promises to be a lot of fun and if you have not been before there is plenty of room, so do come along .
2026 is now very close and AREME will once more be seeking your support to renew your membership, which aids our voice in our town. Those of you that attended our AGM earlier this year will remember that the new annual subscription, as agreed at the AGM, will now be €10.00 p/p. All card holding members are entitled to the discount sheet showing names of up to 14 business, many offering up to 10% of goods and services
We are pleased to say that Lori Schock has joined our committee and will be helping to promote AREME on social media as well as bringing a fresh look to our profile. With her help we are excited to announce that we will be soon launching an ”online membership sign up and renewal option”. Members will still be able to join or renew in person as before, however this new online process will make it easier and more convenient for many of you and help everyone stay connected and up to date. Our goal is to make membership renewals as smooth and flexible as possible no matter how you choose to join.
Our Christmas Coffee morning is on the 1st of December this year at RICKS BAR and as normal the party starts at 11am. Coffee and tea with a festive mince pie will cost just €4.00 and we will have a XMAS raffle for our Cancer charity. Please come along and support us, as like last year we want to raise our total for this year to €2000 to give to the charity.
The coffee morning on 15th December at The Regency Café will still go ahead as usual, starting at 11am.
We hope to see you on the 1st , 10th or 15th of Dec but if not the committee wish all our AREME members A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR.
