Dear friends well what a terrible start to 2026 we have all experienced, we hope you are all well and have got through some of the worst weather we have all seen for a long time.
As soon as a new year starts the first thing we have to do is to reissue all returning members with new membership cards and ask for your membership fee. If you are finding it difficult to meet up at regular monthly coffee mornings please note that now you can access our web site aremespain.org and contact us by following the join us instructions, you should be able to pay the €10 annual sub´s if you use `Pay Pal as we are now all set up to accept payment from you by this method, however we do like you to have a membership card which is needed for our discount list also now shown on the web. To enable giving you the card it is best at coffee mornings either at Ricks Bar in Estepona Port on the 1st Monday of the month or at The Regency Bar upper level at, Benavista on the 3rd Monday of the month both from 11am .NB all contact numbers for committee members are also on the web site and someone will always give you any information you need to obtain your card.
This year AREME are celebrating 20 years of service to the community and we look forward to you to celebrate it with us, on the next coffee morning at Ricks bar in the port we want to ask you to join in and play board game or dominos or bring along a card game you may like to play ,and if all goes well maybe we can make it a regular event. As in many of the last years we have also supported the annual Town Hall Foreign residents day where all foreign residents have stands representing their own country and there is an 8 hour long period of song and dance from around the world, we hope on this day to enrol new members and also fund raise for our charities.This year the date is fixed for 11th April.
Just before the 11th on Monday April the 6th we shall be holding our Hotcross bun and coffee morning at Ricks Bar along with an Easter raffle of Easter eggs, this is always a great day and very popular, we supply the Hotcross buns and tea or coffee for €4.00 and all proceeds on the morning go to our charities.
At our recent wet and windy AGM ,we asked representatives from Parkinsons and Collective Calling to come and talk about their various requirements and both groups were voted in by the members as worthy causes, so this year we would like all your support to enable us to raise as much money as we can .
Among all the regular fundraising we do during the year, every year we have one big event , and this year we are holding it on the 14th of June , last year we went to La Grappa Restaurant and raised in the region of €600 but this year we are back at Ritas Bar also known as Sol y Sierra behind the Parque Antena with our Hog Roast afternoon. This is an exclusive AREME event and we will be getting in touch later about this great fun day.
For all our members in the Benavista Benamara area of Estepona who have been following the Blue Bridge saga we were pleased to see that there now seems a break through with the Town Hall telling the Spanish Sur on the 13 / Feb that they are pushing to get the conversion to the bridge sorted out soon, they have the funds in place and just awaiting the go ahead. AREME in support of all the communities in this was one of the main driving forces in getting the initial €16,000 as well as putting in €1000 from our funds and Jim who was on our committee at the time kept the whole quest ongoing to make what we now hope to soon be a reality.
As already mentioned it is now possible to join us on line or renew your membership ,but on top of that we also have an official WhatsApp group and Estepona Facebook page .
The Committee have also been joined by 2 new members, Irene is our new secretary and Sue is our new membership Secretary, so we are looking forward to a great year.
Don’t forget Quiz nights are now on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month at ViceVersa Estepona port and already this year we are getting up to 8 teams playing ,come along and have a good fun evening, if on your own we can find you someone to play with as with AREME you are never alone.
