Newsletter February 2024

Dear friends, we are now in a drought situation and the world is turning its self inside out but we must just carry on.

Our thoughts are with our President Francine and our long serving committee member Pian who this month have found themselves in hospital. Francine knew that she would be going in for an operation and is now home again recovering we wish her a speedy recovery. Pian has had an emergency due to a heart attack and very recently has had a life saving operation. We wish Pian well as she comes to
terms with the situation that she is now in and we hope she gains a full recovery very soon.

At our AGM the committee have been fortunate to have been able to replace our social secretary. Richard Baker who has been a great asset in the organisation having stream lined the membership information and getting us to the start of our web page. Richards replacement is Shirley Mill whom we are know is going to fit in well.

At the AGM we again asked you, our members, for an organisation to support this year under our fund-raising banner. After quite a lot of ideas and general discussion it was settled on the Estepona Soup Kitchen. In order to confirm their current needs, we are now making contact and hope to talk to representative from the local group. We understand they have had donations recently, but it is a very well used facility in the town and needs continuous support. The committee will keep you in touch on the outcome.

We have just had a successful social lunch, with 21 of our members attending at the Cabana Restaurant in El Pillar in the Banavista area. We will be holding a similar event later in the year in Estepona town The idea is to enable members to meet new people in a relaxed friendly way, as our group is without a permanent home this is a good way to find new friends.

Coming up: The Cancelada town hall which is part of the main Estepona town Hall is putting on a table sale on the 9th of March, and AREME have been invited to attend. If you can help or donate things for sale then please contact Jim Stevenson on 677 866953 . We can take home baked cakes or unwanted small items. All the money raised to go to our charity fund so please make a note to come and
support us and have a morning out.

We are pleased to say that have now already got well over a 100 members who have rejoined for this year, if you receive this news letter but have not yet renewed your membership please contact us on our email info.areme2022@gmail.com and we will get back to you with info on how to renew. mornings coming up in March on the 1st Monday at Ricks Bar in Estepona Port and the 3rd Monday at Neli G’s Benavista. Where you can renew so come along and have a chat.
